The compton effect in the chromosphere

We assume that the lines of the solar spectrum, formed in the reversing layer, when travelling for an optical thickness τ in the chromosphere are subjected to a red shift Δλ(τ) due to multiple Compton scattering. We limit our investigation to the difference of the red shift at the limb—the red shift at the centre of the disc giving a good agreement between the theoretical results and observations.
