V. Approximate period-age relations

Abstract

It is shown that approximate period-age relations for Delta Scuti-stars and classical cepheids can be relatively easily obtained by using some results, which concern the stellar evolution and stellar pulsation. These approximate relations are in a reasonable agreement with the accurate period-age relations for these variables (Tsvetkov, 1986). It is pointed out that different kinds of period-age relations exist for Delta Scutistars in the core and shell hydrogen burning phases. In order to determine the age of a star, one has to take into account its evolutionary phase: core or shell hydrogen burning for Delta Scuti-variables; the number of crossing of the instability strip for classical cepheides.
