Abstract
The eccentric orbit binary model which has been developed by Haynes, Lerche and Murdin (1979) for the radio-emitting X-ray source Circinus X-1 is used to calculate the inverse Compton γ-ray flux. Burst-like behaviour is predicted in association with the formation near orbital periastron of a luminosity-driven, radially expanding shock front.
