‘Activity’ in RS CVn stars, and how to characterize it

Abstract

Ambiguities and uncertainties in the discussion on ‘stellar activity’ are referred to. At least part of the problem may derive from observational procedures. These are briefly reviewed and some recent advances noted. A few purposes of such undertakings are finally given.
