Summary
In the determination of beryllium with graphite furnace AAS an amplification of Be absorbance by calcium can be obtained, when carbon rods are coated with pyrolytic carbon and hydrogen is used as reactive gas. This amplification effect can be calibrated and has its maximum at calcium concentrations between 10−3 and 5 · 10−2 [mole · l−1] depending on the carbon rod; thus, amplification can be 5–10-fold. The reason for that might be chemical reactions in the graphite furnace preceding the atomization.
