New results on the fermi surface of beta-brass

New de Haas-van Alphen-effect results are reported for beta-brass (β′-CuZn), including a limited study under hydrostatic pressure in liquid helium. A new frequency of magnitude 0.133 [in units of (2π/a) 2 ] is observed at 〈110〉. The experimental evidence appears to be against the association of theF1 oscillations with holes in the second band, but is unable to show that this frequency derives from holes in the first band. No evidence was observed in the de Haas-van Alphen effect of magnetic breakdown in beta-brass.
