Dilatation and temperature increase of a semiconductor surface heated by a cw laser

A simple interferometric method is discussed which allows to measure thermal dilatation, and its time evolution, of a semiconductor slab heated with a cw laser beam. From these measurements information on some thermal parameters can be inferred. Experimental results are presented and contrasted with the theory.
