Summary

New platinum(IV) complexes of the typestrans-[PtX2L(AA)] (where L=ethanolamine or ethanethiolamine and AA=carboxylic acid such as oxalate, malonate, methylmalonate, and ethylmalonate) andtrans-[PtX2L(B)2] (where B =formate, acetate, glycinate, or crotonate; X=Cl or Br) have been synthesized and characterized by chemical analyses, conductance, i.r., electronic spectra and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The bidentate nature of the ON donor ethanolamine and NS donor ethanethiolamine was established by the shift of η(NH2), η(OH), δ(NH2) and η(C-S) to lower energy on complex formation. The complexes are diamagnetic and non-electrolytes. They are six coordinate and octahedral.
