Summary
Equilibrium studies of CuII ions and (2-hydroxy-4-nitro)benzylglycine by pH titrations [25 °C; I=0.1 (NaClO4)] indicate the existence of the species CuHL+, CuH2L2, CuHL −2 and CuL 2−2 in 1∶2 metal : ligand mixtures in aqueous solution. The stoichiometric equilibrium constants corresponding to various reactions have been evaluated by suitable adaptations and modifications of the algebraic method, while first neglecting and then considering the contribution of hydrolytic reactions of CuII. A treatment has also been worked out for the determination of the distribution of CuII ions among the various species.
