Abstract
For an overdamped vibration mode, it is shown that polariton dispersion curves derived from various measurable quantities are different according to the kind of experiments considered and the way they are performed. Experimental results are given for BaTiO3 and show that a resonant spectrum is observed when polaritons are studied by coherent excitation leading to an easier determination of the overdamped polariton mode parameters.
