Abstract
A possible mechanism of inversion between the rotational levels of a pulse hydrogen-deuterium laser on excitation of the operating levels from the ground state by direct electronic collisions is considered. It is shown that one must take account not only of the Franck-Condon principle, but also of certain distinctive features of the rotational level population. These have to do with the preservation of the rotational levels of molecules excited by electronic collisions. The results obtained agree qualitatively with experimental data.
