Realization of the properties of the carbon fiber reinforcement in a composite

Conclusions

  1. 1.

    The factors influencing the realization of the properties of CF in composites have been investigated.

     
  2. 2.

    A model of the fracture mechanism of a composite consisting of a three-component system (CF-surface layer-matrix) is proposed.

     
  3. 3.

    It is shown that the strength and the coefficient of variation of the strength of CF-reinforced plastics in bending and tension are not determined by the mean strength and coefficient of variation of the strength of the CF, estimated by standard methods.

     
  4. 4.

    It is suggested that the present level of the bending strength of epoxy CF-reinforced plastics is limited by the shear characteristics of the matrix.
