Summary
-
1.
IR-spectrometric, X-ray phase, and crystallo-optic studies were run with the products obtained by dehydration of uranium and plutonium tetrafluorides of the rhombic crystal class and of monoclinic uranium tetrafluoride in a current of hydrogen fluoride.
-
2.
It was shown that the dehydration of the rhombic uranium and plutonium tetrafluorides in a current of hydrogen fluoride is accompanied by the formation of previously not described hydrate forms.
-
3.
The monoclinic crystal hydrate UF4 · (4/3)H2O does not form intermediate hydrate forms when it is dehydrated in an HF current.
-
4.
The final dehydration products of the crystal hydrates studied are the corresponding anhydrous monoclinic salts UF4 and PuF4.
