Interaction of t rich loroacetic acid with alcohols and ethers

Journal of Applied Spectroscopy Aims and scope

Abstract

The IR spectra of solutions of trichloroacetic acid in certain alcohols and ethers have been studied in the vibration regions of the C=O and OH(OD) groups of the acid. The data obtained in the region ofv of the C=O group of trichloracetic acid in alcohols and in the valence vibration region of the OH(OD) group of the acid in ethers indicate that there is a greater probability of interaction of carboxylic acids with weakly differentiating solvents than with strongly differentiating solvents.

The IR spectra of diethylammonium triehloroacetate in certain alcohols have also been studied in the asymmetric valence vibration region of the carboxylate ion. The difference in the differentiating action of alcohols does not affect the frequency of the asymmetric valence vibrations of a given ion.
