Über die Orientierung der Vögel; Experimente und Probleme

Zusammenfassung

Dieses Referat sowie alle Einzelheiten, die hier nicht besprochen werden konnten, können mit wenigen Worten zusammengefaßt werden: Wir haben zur Zeit weder experimentell noch theoretisch (was Hypothesen betrifft) sonderlich festen Boden unter den Füßen. Aber wir haben das klar umrissene Ziel, die Navigationsmechanismen aufzuklären. Der Mangel an spezifischen statistischen Verfahren, ein Hindernis, das unsere Arbeit bisher spürbar gehemmt hat, wird jetzt rasch behoben. Statistiker haben unsere Probleme — hauptsächlich aus dem bislang vernachlässigten Gebiet der Statistik von Kreisverteilungen — auf gegriffen, und es werden in rascher Folge Methoden bekannt (Literatur bis Mitte 1963 in [39h]), die es uns ermöglichen, Versuche sinnvoll zu planen und ihre Ergebnisse quantitativ auszuwerten.
