Summary

Se(VI) is adsorbed strongly on DEAE-cellulose from 0.1–6 M formic acid solution, while Se(IV) is adsorbed only slightly from the same media. This favourable difference in adsorption allows an effective separation of Se(IV) and Se(VI) to be achieved on a small column. Determination is performed in both cases by precipitation as lead selenate, dissolution in excess EDTA and back-titration with Mn sulphate solution.
