Abstract
From the mantle of the Caribbean Sea gastropod molluskStrombus gigas a bioglycan containing carbohydrates (73%), protein (22%), and lipid (about 5%) components has been isolated. It has been shown by hydrolysis, periodate oxidation, and methylation that the bioglycan is a D-glucan constructed of α-1,4-bound D-glucose residues and has side chains of D-glucose residues linked by α-1,6-bonds.
