Summary
The Harding-Passey melanoma was transplanted to 463 female mice (NMRI-Org./Kisslegg) which received 6 × 106 cells. The tumor age of the donor mice varied between 18 and 172 days. Variations in the tumor age did not significantly influence the outcome of transplantation. The studies indicated clearly that the tumor age of the donor had no definite influence upon the growth capacity of the transplanted cells. The transplants of each age group grew equally successful in the hosts. The average growth rate of implants amounted to 76.5 ± 4.5%. The tumor induction time started after 11 days and reached the maximum after 60 days. An average duration of the experiments from 25.3 days, 62.7 days and 154 days of the different groups showed no significant effect on the percentage of takes.
