Summary
A demographic and clinical profile of over 1600 patients attending 12 day hospitals is presented, together with an analysis of the therapies used. Some suggestions are offered on the role and function of the day hospital in psychiatric practice, both currently and as envisaged for the future.

L'auteur, après une enquête de type épidémiologique, réalisée sur plus de 1 600 malades, dans douze hôpitaux de jour, tente de dresser le profil démographique et clinique de la population étudiée; il analyse les thérapeutiques utilisées et propose quelques réflexions sur la définition, la place et la fonction de l'hôpital de jour dans la pratique psychiatrique actuelle et envisage son avenir.
