Incidence of hip fractures — At last a steady state in the Nordic countries ?

Summary

The incidence of hip fractures was studied in Copenhagen over a 16-year period between 1978 and 1993. A total of 5018 hip fractures (4050 in women and 968 in men) was recorded. The median age was 80 years (range 13–102). A total of 2870 were cervical fractures and 2148 were pertrochanteric fractures. The overall incidence was 3,6/1000 inhabitants/year or 9,7/1000 inhabitants aged >50 years, and was stable between 1978 and 1993.

La fréquence des fractures de l'extrémité supérieure du fémur a ètè étudiée à Copenhague pendant une période de 16 ans allant de 1978 à 1993. Un total de 5018 cas (4050 femmes et 968 hommes) fut répertorié. L'âge moyen était de 80 ans (de 13 ans à 102 ans). Il y avait 2870 fractures du col du fémur et 2148 fractures pertrochantériennes. L'incidence générale a été de 3,6 pour 1000 habitants et de 9,7 pour 1000 habitants pour les tranches d'âge supérieures à 50 ans. Cette fréquence a été stable entre 1978 et 1993
