Bestimmung kleiner Kohlendioxidmengen in Titantetrachlorid

Summary

A method for determining very small amounts of carbon (above 0.001%) in titanium tetrachloride has been worked out. A sample is combusted in a stream of oxygen at about 950°C and the chlorine produced is removed from the reaction products by passing them through an absorber filled with a solution of potassium iodide. The gas stream is then purified on silver at about 450°C and carbon dioxide is determined conductometrically by means of an ULTRAGAS analyzer provided with an integrator. A method for introducing the sample into the combustion tube securing the zero-value of the blank has also been described. In case of sample weights of about 0.1 g and carbon contents around 0.01% the variation coefficient amounted to 6–9%. The whole analysis takes about 20 minutes.

Zusammenfassung

Eine Methode zur Bestimmung von kleinen Kohlenstoffmengen (über 0,001%) in Titantetrachlorid wurde ausgearbeitet. Die Probe wird in einem Sauerstoffstrom bei etwa 950° C verbrannt und das entstandene Kohlendioxid mit Hilfe des konduktometrischen Analysators ULTRAGAS in Verbindung mit einem Integrator bestimmt. Bei Einwaagen von etwa 0,1 g und einem Kohlenstoffgehalt von etwa 0,01% beträgt der Variationskoeffizient 6–9%. Eine Analyse dauert etwa 20 min.
