Zur Morphologie der Dünndarmschleimhaut bei Morbus Whipple (intestinale Lipodystrophie)

Eine licht- und elektronenoptische Untersuchung

Summary

Light- and electron microscopic observations on intestinal biopsies of two cases of Whipple's disease, before and after antibiotic treatment, are described. Special attention is given to the bacteria as known since 1961 in connection with this disease, their etiologic role and problems of their chemical wall structure, and the ensuing tissue reaction. Comparisons between the morphology of the intestine and the clinical symptoms before and during antibiotic therapy give further evidence of the importance of the mucosal epithelium for the intestinal fat reabsorption.
