Permeability studies with the interstitial tissue of the rat mesentery

III. Effect of native levan on the permeability of interstitial tissue

Summary

The influence of native levan, a poly-anhydrofructose upon mesentery membrane permeability was studied in vitro. It was shown that this substance decreases the permeability of the interstitial tissue membrane to tracer molecules, and that the inhibition of the diffusion of these molecules varies directly with their molecular weight. The temperature dependence of this effect was also demonstrated.

Zusammenfassung

Der Einfluß von nativem Levan, einer Poly-Anhydrofructose, auf die Permeabilität der sog. mesenterialen Membran wurde in vitro untersucht. Es wurde nachgewiesen, daß die Substanz die Permeabilität dieser interstitiellen Membran für Tracermoleküle erniedrigt. Die verminderte Diffusion von Tracermolekülen durch die Membran in Gegenwart von Levan hängt vom Molekulargewicht des Tracers ab. Der Einfluß der Temperatur auf die Diffusion der Tracer in Gegenwart von Levan wurde ebenfalls untersucht.
