Translation of a paper read at the first scientific meeting of the Dutch section of the International Association for Logic and the Philosophy of Science, 13 December 1947 at Utrecht (Holland).
The writer did not overlook the importance of “existentialism” and the phaenomenological method advocated by Husserl, but in order to do justice to thse comparatively new philosophies at least another paper of the same size as the present one would be required. So it was thought more proper to drop treatment of them altogether. For discussion see notes.
