Summary
The effect of hydrostatic pressure differences across the isolated frog skin on active sodium transport was measured using the short circuit method ofUssing. An increase of hydrostatic pressure up to 50 mm H2O on the outer side or the inner side did not change the short circuit current significantly. When the hydrostatic pressure was increased up to 1000 mm H2O the effect upon active sodium transport depends on the side of the epithelium at which the pressure was increased, whereas an increase at the outer side had no or little effect upon sodium reabsorption an increase on the inner side of the epithelium reduces active sodium transport markedly or abolished it completely.
