Summary

  1. 1.

The content of total phospholipids and of sphingomyelin, phosphatidyl choline, phosphatidyl ethanolamine, phosphatidyl serine and cardiolipin was determined in the cerebrum, cerebral cortex, cerebellum and medulla oblongata of anaesthetized rabbits in vivo.

  2. 2.

The differences in the content of total phospholipids and the phospholipid components are explained on the basis of different morphological composition.

  3. 3.

The changes of content of phospholipids were examined after 3, 10 and 30 min of complete ischemia in normothermia. The extent of reduction of total phospholipids and individual components was found to be different in various regions of the brain. In addition, the effects proved to be dependent upon the duration of ischemia. Within the first 3 min the rates of metabolic degradation were highest.

  4. 4.

The findings are discussed on the basis of enzymic hydrolyses. The regional metabolic differences are compared to the functional characteristics of these areas.

Zusammenfassung

  1. 1.
