Summary

Static discharge frequencies of 32 single cold fibres from the cat's infraorbital nerve were recorded as a function of constant temperatures of the external nasal region. The average maximum was 9 impulses/sec at 27° C. At 17° C all cold fibres were still active, whereas at 41° C only a few were firing continuously. Our results are nearly identical with those from the cat's lingual nerve and, with respect to the temperature of the static maximum, in general agreement with the behaviour of cutaneous cold receptors in other species and other cutaneous regions.
