Abstract
Standardized osteotomies were created to cadaver femoral bones imitating pertrochanteric fractures. We performed osteosyntheses alternately by DHS and gamma-nail, following an especially defined procedure. Cyclical loads were applied to the units, measuring the maximum loading capacity, and documenting the results by radiography.
We received high loading capacities in case of stable and relatively unstable osteotomy types when using the DHS. Statistically significant higher rates of the maximum loading capacity were measured for the gamma-nail compared to the DHS, when using it on the complete instable type of osteotomy.
These evaluations are discussed concerning their clinical relevance.
