Summary
It is evident from previous reports that splitting of the staff group is a powerful and continual occurrence in the daily life of inpatient psychiatry services. It seems critical that a sophisticated psychiatry staff be able to tolerate and master the ability to work with these phenomena. If the staff may lead a work culture in which split off parts of the group and of the individual are integrated, then a fundamental need of psychiatric patients is being met. We present a method by which a staff may work at developing this competence in a brief, intensive conference.
