Thermal decomposition of carbon dioxide in an argon plasma jet

Abstract

The decomposition of carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide and oxygen in an argon plasma is studied. The overall kinetic and energy-related parameters of the process, as well as the quenching rates of the products, are evaluated on the basis of measured radial and longitudinal profiles of both temperature and degree of decomposition in the high-temperature reaction zone.
