Conclusions

1. For steam sterilization of surgical instruments at 120°, we recommend an inside diameter of 160 mm and a height of 220 mm for operation in conjunction with a pressure not less than 1.2 kg/cm2 above atmospheric.

2. Not less than 400 ml of water should be placed in the sterilizer at the start, and the quantity recommended is 500 ml.

3. With a heater power of 400 W, the total weight of instruments to be sterilized should not exceed 750 g; with a 800-W heater element it should not exceed 2250 g.

4. The sterilization time should be not less than 45 min.
