Conclusions

The regression equations for ceramic and chromium coatings have different coefficients, therefore, for the same required surface temperature of rolls with different coatings, the level of thermocouple adjustment should be different. This can be determined from the regression equation.

The larger scattering figures for actual roll surface temperature as compared with those for the thermocouples are explained by the effect of many random factors, for example, different thicknesses of the ceramic coating, loose attachment of the thermocouple, etc. To reduce the effect of these, it is necessary to set stiffer tolerances on the coating thickness, and to treat the internal surface of the rolls at the site of contact with the thermocouple to a roughness index figure, Ra of 1.24 µ.
