Conclusions
A multifactored effect of the angle of installation of the knives in the knife head on cutting quality has been found.
To reduce the formation of short fibres, it is recommended to select an installation angle for the knives in the knife head which is not over 5°; and, to increase the uniformity in length of the elementary fibres in the staple, it is recommended to resharpen the knives when the width of the contact bevel reaches 2.5 mm.
