Conclusions
A review has been given of recent theoretical work on the liquid crystal state of rigid-chain polymers.
The effect of polydispersity in molecular weight and the role of partial flexibility of macromolecules on the concentration and temperature ranges for transition of solutions of these polymers into the anisotropic state have been noted.
The problem of transition of solid polymers containing no solvent into the liquid crystal state has been discussed.
