Conclusions

A procedure has been developed for determining the breaking characteristics of elementary filaments by testing in a bundle.

A formula has been proposed for calculating the coefficient of variation in the breaking load of elementary filaments using the figure for total work to failure of a bundle.

Experimental checking has shown good agreement between results from the proposed procedure and traditional methods.
