Summary
The importance of the iliac crest biopsy for the diagnosis of sporadic cases and early manifestations of fluorosis is described. For the first time histological pictures of just beginning human fluorosis are demonstrated. The radiological classification of the stages of fluorosis according to Fritz was confirmed by our microanalyses of fluorine from a second iliac crest cylinder. In case of genuine violent complaints, clear histological changes, and fluorine values above 0.4% in the bone ash of the iliac crest cylinder the disease should be classified as an occuptional one even with few clinical and radiological findings.
