Summary

The importance und the applicability of two formulas for the relaxation drag of a slender profile in steady, plane flow are discussed. For the supersonic case this drag is calculated, and the question is answered, which are the shapes of the optimum profiles, i.e. the profiles that minimize the relaxation drag. Finally, the optimum relaxation drag is compared with the drag of a fixed biconvex airfoil.
