Summary

Two mechanisms are responsible for the agar-induced release of histamine and serotonin from rabbit platelets. The acidic, water soluble components — agaropectin — are histamine liberators acting directly on the cells. In contrast, agarose acts indirectly. It activates a system in rabbit plasma that produces a platelet damaging compound.

Zusammenfassung

Der Freisetzung von Histamin und Serotonin aus Kaninchenthrombocyten durch Agar liegen zwei verschiedene Mechanismen zugrunde. Die sauren, wasserlöslichen Anteile — Agaropektin — wirken als direkte Histaminliberatoren auf die Zellen ein. Agarose setzt dagegen nur in Gegenwart von Plasma Amine frei. Sie aktiviert im Kaninchenplasma ein System, das eine thrombocytenschädigende Substanz entwickelt.
