Zusammenfassung
Die histologische, histochemische und biochemische Wirkung einer prolongierten Thyroxin- und Methylthiouracyl-Verabreichung auf den Mucopolysaccharid-Gehalt wurde an 40 Ratten untersucht. Eine prolongierte Verabreichung von Thyroxin verursachte ein signifikantes Herabsinken des Hexosamingehaltes des Serums und des Lebergewebes. Eine prolongierte Verabreichung von Methylthiouracyl verursachte eine Erhöhung des Hexosamingehaltes des Serums und des Lebergewebes. Ein Vergleich des Gewichtes, der histologischen Struktur, des histochemischen und biochemischen Verhaltens der verschiedenen Gruppen (Kontrolltiere, die mit Thyroxin behandelten Tiere und die mit Methylthiouracyl behandelten Tiere) zeigte eindeutige und wesentliche Unterschiede u. a. in der Form und Größe der Epithelzellen der Schilddrüsenfollikel, in dem Kolloid-Gehalt der Follikel und in der PAS-Positivität des Kolloids.
Durch diese Ergebnisse wurden frühere, am Menschen festgestellte und an Hunden gewonnene Ergebnisse an einer dritten Species bekräftigt, wordurch die Möglichkeit gewonnen wurde, ein biologisches Prinzip zu formulieren, wonach in der neurohormonalen Regulation des Hexosamin-(Mucopolysaccharid-)Gehaltes des Serums (und der Gewebe) der Schilddrüse eine wesentliche Rolle zukommt.
