Abstract
The effect of added potassium on the catalytic properties of an Fe/ZrO2 catalyst in the hydrogenation of CO have been studied. A kinetic criterion is proposed for the participation of the basic centers in the catalyst in the olefin formation step. Use of this criterion indicates that the basic centres of the catalyst considerably accelerate the conversion of surface alkyl groups to olefins during the hydrogenation of CO.
