The pyramid gauze diffuser

Summary

An analysis for the flow deflection characteristics of wire gauzes is shown to provide agreement with and a correlation for the existing experimental results. These characteristics are used to control the flow in a very short diffuser, with a high expansion ratio in which the flow diffuses across oblique gauzes in the form of a pyramid. This design is shown to give satisfactory results for flow uniformity at outlet, degree of pressure loss, and steadiness of flow.
