Abstract
The kinetics of the reaction of Cu(OH)3 − and Cu(OH)4 2− with a lariat ligand were studied, and the reaction rate constants (130 and 17 liter·mole−1·sec−1 at 298 K) and activation energies E≢ (21.4 and 9.6 kcal/mole) were determined. The abnormally high E≢ (46 kcal/mole), observed at pH 5, is explained as being a consequence of the necessity of deprotonation of the ligand.
