Use of nuclear overhauser effect to determine conformation of NH-cyanine

Abstract

Using the differential nuclear Overhauser effect, we have determined the preferential ZEEE-conformation of indocarbocyanine, in which the alkyl group at one of the nitrogen atoms is replaced by a hydrogen atom. The result obtained agrees with data from optical spectroscopy of bis-carbocyanines.
