X-ray photoelectron study of the surface of expanded and expandable graphite

  • Published:
Theoretical and Experimental Chemistry Aims and scope

Abstract

Based on analysis of the x-ray photoelectron spectra of expandable graphite obtained in hydrolysis of graphite bisulfate and expanded graphite obtained upon thermolysis of intercalated graphite compound with trifluoroacetic acid, we determine the composition of the surface layer of these materials and we suggest a structure for the functional groups present in it.
