Abstract
The electronic structure of the molecules PH, PH −2 , PH3 and PH +4 has been calculated by an extended MO-LCAO method, taking into account the values 90°, 109.5°, and 120° for the bond angles of PH −2 and PH3. The expected bond angles for PH −2 and PH3 are obtained and the bond energies agree well with the results calculated by other authors.
Use of suitable defined energy parameters enables a judgement of the strength of a PH-bond and leads to an appreciation of possible reactions of the molecules.
