Abstract
A method has been developed for kinetic measurements on nitrofuran anion radicals generated electrochemically within the ESR cavity. The radical concentrations are determined by comparison with benzene solutions of DPPH. Radical loss at high pH in aqueous alcohol occurs as a second-order reaction, the rate being very much dependent on the pH, but only slightly on the proportion of alcohol. A protonation mechanism of radical loss is discussed.
