Abstract
The electron transitions in the stilbene molecule, their polarizations and oscillator-strenghts are calculated by means of the electron-gas model with ramification. The results confirm the supposition, that the first band of the stilbene-spectrum is a superposition of two bands of different intensity. The calculated oscillator-strengths agree well with the experimental values, especially for the trans- and cis-configuration. The theoretical polarization of the first electron transition in the long axis of the molecule agrees with the experimental results.
