Summary
-
1.
Rats of different genetic strain (Sprague-Dawley, BD II, and Wistar) were X-rayed with high dosages and subsequently infused with homologeous bone marrow or bone marrow plus spleen cells. The rate of survival differed with the strain.
-
2.
Animals of the same strain with tumors, X-rayed and treated in the same manner, reacted more sensitively than animals of the control group, although the X-ray dosage as such did not shorten their life span.
-
3.
Low X-ray dosage plus infusions of bone marrow and spleen cells improved the survival rate, although not significantly.
-
4.
The survival rate was significantly improved when infusing spleen cells of rats pretreated with lipo-polysaccharide and when using lower X-ray dosages. On an average the survival rate was doubled, in some animals 4 to 5 times longer than normal, and accordingly, the tumour growth was retarded.
-
5.
The treatment was only carried out once; none of the animals demonstrated any ill effects from it.
Zusammenfassung
-
1.
