Summary
The 121 carcinomas of the prostate diagnosed from surgical specimens between 1947 to 1952 were re-examined, re-evaluated, and classified into 10 different groups. The largest groups were: the well-differentiated adenocarcinoma (26), the clear cell tubulo-alveolar carcinoma (25), the carcinoma solidum simplex (22), the adenoid carcinoma (16), and the clear cell solid carcinoma (10). A clinical follow-up in 77 of the 121 patients 2as possible. Of these 77, 21 were still alive 5 years after the operation. Only with the clear cell tubulo-alveolar carcinoma did the number of the cases surviving exceed that of those who had died. In the group of the clear cell solid carcinoma and the carcinoma adenomatosum cribrosum all of the patients had died. The average survival time of those dying was 21 months; for the clear cell tubulo-alveolar carcinoma, however, it was 49 months; for the clear cell solid carcinoma only 8 months.
