Summary
Leukemias of the AKR strain developing after infection of newborn mice with Graffi virus, exhibited the specific antigenic characteristics of the Graffi virus-induced leukemias. By treating syngeneic or semisyngeneic recipients with X-ray killed suspensions of leukemic tissues, the authors were able to induce tumor-specific transplantation resistance to those leukemias used for immunization. Using the fluorescent-antibody technique, Gr-specific surface antigens were demonstrated in the cells of these leukemias. The leukemias which were of different histological type, had developed after an average latency of 4 months. Spontaneous Gross leukemias arising after latent periods of 8 to 10 months did not reveal the Gr-specific antigenic characteristics. Problems of the immunological differentiation between Graffi and Gross leukemias of the AKR strain are discussed.
